Environmentally-conscious and energy-efficient building has become increasingly popular as people realize the downstream cost and energy savings as well as environmental benefits. The United States Green Building Council (USGBC)  regulates the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system.

The LEED system is a series of credits given to designers, builders and owners who build responsibly based on several different criteria while maximizing economic and environmental performance.
